NEW MUSIC \\ Snarky Puppy reveal new single ‘Xavi’

22nd January 2019

Snarky Puppy return with their new single ‘Xavi’ and studio album, ‘Immigrance’ this Spring. Released via their label, GroundUP Music, the record – their twelfth – has been three years in the making and explores themes of immigration and movement.

Of the track ‘Xavi’, the band’s co-founder, bassist and producer Micheal League, explains: “‘Xavi’ is inspired by a beautiful experience we had in Morocco at last year’s Gnawa Music Festival in Essaouira, sharing a week of rehearsal and performance with the country’s most respected guimbre master, Hamid El Kasri حميد القصري, and his incredible group of musicians”.

Talking about ‘Immigrance’ in an interview with Supreme Standards, League said that he was “curious – and also terrified – to hear what people think of it”.

On the surface, ‘Xavi’ carries some prog-rock influence, heavily featuring Chris Bullock on flute and guitarist Chris McQueen. League describes the track has been inspired by “the folkloric chaabi groove of Morocco”.
