At the start of each month, you can rely on our Jazz Calender to highlight the unmissable. Looking outwards from the UK, here’s a bunch of cool things — releases, live shows, exhibitions and more — all happening in November.

Catch the Seshen on their UK tour

Tru Thoughts soul-pop outfit The Seshen enter into November on a UK tour, hitting London and Manchester as well as Nottingam, Edinburgh and Brighton. Various remixes of the band’s tracks by Rhi and Wrongtom feature on the label’s new ‘Shapes: Mountains’ compilation.

Listen to vinyl in London – Japanese style

25 October – 18 November

Check out Moonglow London, a pop-up Jazz kissaten. The Japanese concept of Jazz kissatens — cafes or bars with high spec audio systems — started in post war Japan when records were expensive to import. Guest DJs and personalities will be dropping into Moonglow to curate live sets. Do it the Tokyo way; enter quietly, soak in the crackling record and sip on whisky. All profits go to the Steve Reid Foundation

Gondwana band Mammal Hands reveal a new EP 

2 November

A year after their third album ‘Shadow Work’, trio Mammal Hands release ‘Becoming’, a three track EP which spans hugely in dynamic variation, mood and sensitivity. This is a shorter but wildly impactful snapshot from the same sessions that lead to their latest album.

Near Mint record fair

4 November

Over three thousand diggers took to 93ft East the last time that Near Mint threw a record fair in East London. DJs will be playing whilst you do your treasure hunting, with food and drink also available.

Chicago’s International Anthem label hit Paris

5-6 November

Legendary music club New Morning hosts International Anthem for two nights, presented by Total Refreshment Centre and 3 Pom Prod. Trumpeter Jaimie Branch and politically progressive avant-garde group Irreversible Entanglements are amongst the line-up.

Counterpoint, Tate Modern

8 November

Counterpoint gives musicians the opportunity to DJ their own sets with any twist they see fit. For November’s edition, multi-instrumentalist Ben Lamar Gay goes back to back with Emma-Jean Thackray.

Little Dragon drop new ‘Lover Chanting’ EP

9 November

Title track ‘Lover Chanting’ was born from Little Dragon researching a Swedish wedding march. Their first release since signing with London label Ninja Tune, the Scandinavian outfit return with joyful mantras and dance-worthy hooks.

Le Guess Who? Festival returns to Holland

9-11 November

Over three days, Utrecht will host a progressive line-up including Neneh Cherry, Nicole Mitchell and the intriguingly headlined Sons of Kemet XL; bandleader Shabaka Hutchings has also curated a selection of other artists to perform at the festival, including Kojey Radical, STUFF. and BCUC.

EFG London Jazz Festival 

16-25 November

One of Europe’s most popular, London Jazz Festival spans ten days of live shows. This year, you can check out flautist Chip Wickham (Friday 16), Australian Art Ensemble (Sunday 18) and the launch party of Maisha’s debut record on Brownswood (Thursday 22). CHICAGOxLONDON also returns in fresh form at EartH on Saturday 24 with headline slots from Makaya McCraven and Nubya Garcia. Special guests yet to be announced.

Skate Lates \\ Live music and ice-skating at Somerset House

23 November

Each year, multi-faceted arts spot Somerset House host Skate Lates. On 23 November, radio platform Balamii, who broadcast from London and downtown NYC, present Oscar Jerome and Dr Tropical.
